This is an easy and quick project great for a beginner or just a Saturday night build for an experienced crafter! The bag can be worn in three ways - as a clutch without a handle, a grab bag with the handle attached, and you can also attach a long strap and make it a crossbody bag! It is also quite versatile in terms of the leather that you can use for it - no strict rules! Make it the way you want :) Also a great opportunity to play with interesting color combinations - be creative and make it your own.
Formats included: A4, US Letter and 24" wide PDFs, DXF, SVG.
The pattern is designed for 5 mm stitching irons.
Size (approximately):
Width: 11.5”
Height: 5”
Depth: 3”
What you are gonna need:
Tools:
Knife or scissors, stitching irons, hole punch, oblong (bag) punch 1”, maul or mallet, pair of harness needles, waxed thread, rivet setter.
Materials:
I’ve used 1.8-2 mm (5 oz) leather for the body - you can combine colors and leather types, the stiffness doesn’t really matter, it can be soft or medium, maybe not advisable taking anything that is too stiff though. Thickness also isn’t very important, probably should not be too skinny like lambskin for example, but 1.5-2.5 mm should be fine. Anything thinner than 1 mm would have to be stitched in a turned way, but why not.
For the strap use something 5.5-6 oz and up (2.5-3 mm).
For the small things like buckle holder, D-ring holder and the keepers, 1.5-2 mm should be fine.
The handle has to be made out of something that has some body, I used 2 mm (5 oz). If you decide to make a crossbody strap, use something 6 oz and up, the template for this strap can be downloaded for free here:
