This listing is for PDF pattern to make the backpack, not the actual backpack!

If you have some soft 2-3 oz leather that you bought when you were just starting with leatherwork (or just grabbed some on sale) and don’t know what to make with it, here is your perfect project!

This is my favorite everyday backpack and I’ve been using its first prototype for a couple of years, that one needs restoration :) It was made with 2 oz deer skin and it was perfect because it was supple and lightweight. The second prototype is made with 3 oz cowhide and it is a bit stiffer, you can use any garment or upholstery leather for this backpack, except you will need some 5-6 oz pieces for straps and reinforcements.

For me, this is the most perfect backpack design because it is just the right size for everyday life, it has a pocket on the back with quick access from the outside to keep my phone in there, and two side pockets with no closures but they’re deep enough to stick any small stuff to free your hands - cigarettes if you’re a smoker, sunglasses, pens, pencils, papers, shopping lists etc. I love the quick access with no buckles or flaps, it turned out to be super handy. You can add closures there if you want to :)

Another great news is that this backpack can be sewn on the machine as it doesn’t have any 3D seams.

You will need around 6 square feet of soft leather and a few square feet of thick leather, keeping in mind that straps are 33 1/2” inches long so that has to be a long piece. However, you can use soft leather for the back pocket too.

Size: 13” x 9” x 5”

Pattern is designed for hand stitching but it is possible to assemble it with a sewing machine. Comes with written instructions and assembly pics.
